The Campbell family have been involved in racing for a long time. Through driving,
as a crew member, car builder, or even track owner and promoter. Jerry Campbell started the family into racing back many
years ago in Ontario. Jerry ran a modified at Pinecrest Speedway in Ontario for several years. He then moved down
east and raced in New Brunswick. He teamed up with Ernie McLean to run River Glade Speedway in 1965. At this time, Jerry had
two cars. He would race one car at Brookside Speedway in Fredericton, and Jim Dunn would race the other at River Glade.
Jerry was a part of River Glade Speedway until 1975. In 1981, Jerry bought a Late Model from Adelard Cormier.
He raced it up until 1983 when he started Petty Raceway. He ran Petty Raceway from October 1983 up until 1995. Petty Raceway
had several tours and classes through the years including MASCAR, and the Super Modifieds from the States. Jerry was also one
of the key people to start the Maritime Late Model Sportsman class. He also held special events at the track,
including monster trucks and stunt drivers. Jerry opened the track for four MASCAR races in 2000.
Second generation driver, Mitch Campbell, started out in racing in 1981 in the
Mini Stock class at River Glade Speedway. He won Rookie of the Year and Most Popular Driver all in that year. The next few
years, Mitch ran just a few times each year in the Mini Stock class at River Glade and Petty. In 1985, Mitch and his crew
built a Late Model Sportsman car. He raced it for a year, then sold the car. In 1989, Mitch teamed up with Earlin Smith to
build another Late Model Sportsman car. They ran the full season at both River Glade and Petty that year. In 1990, they sold
that car. In that same year, Mitch started helping out Stephen Carter in the Late Model Sportsman class. He helped him for
two years until Charlie Quinlan, Todd Turner and Mitch got together and raced a Street Stock. Todd drove the car. They won
all the big races one year with that car. In 1993, they switched the Street Stock over to a Sportsman car. They had some success
with the Sportsman, but not like what they had with the Street Stock. The last race Mitch raced in was a 200 lap Streetstock
race where he finished 6th in Derrick Smith's car. Mitch helped out Brian Mac Naughton in 1996 and then built him a car in
1997. The 1997 season was cut short because of a hard lick at River Glade Speedway in practice which ruined the car. In 1999,
Mitch helped out Earlin's son, Derrick Smith built his Sportsman car. Since 1999, Mitch has helped out off and on with different
people, such as Ken MacKenzie, and Mike Kyle in the Sportsman division. Mitch is also a big part of his son Kyle's efforts
in building his Sportsman car.
Kyle is soon to be the third generation driver of the Campbell family. He has
been around racing since he was very young. He started helping at the age of five wheeling tires around the shop for the Street
Stock. He also got to help out with Brian MacNaughton's ride that his father, Mitch built. Kyle got to learn a lot when he
was around to watch how Derrick's car was built. With the knowledge of what he was taught, helping out, being interested in
racing, and having a great teacher in Mitch, Kyle decided to start his own Sportsman car. During this time, Kyle also helped
out Mike Kyle. Then in 2005, Kyle helped out Brian MacNaughton again with his Sportsman car at some races. Also in 2005, Kyle
helped out the Cushman Competition Pro Stock team in a couple of races. Kyle is enjoying his time learning from Cushman
Competition. In 2006, Kyle worked for the Cushman Competition Team for the full season. They had a great season win one win
and third overall in Pro All Stars Series points. This was a great experience for the 19 year old. When Kyle wasn't in the
States working for the Cushman crew, he helped out Derrick Smith at a few races. He also did some set up work at his own shop
for Derrick.
